Lily's Shoes and the BIG Black Bag

The Big Black Bag!!!

I had the pleasure of meeting Maggie as she came to visit with a team to our Center of Hope in Chibuto. We chatted a bit about the kids, her background and her desire to assist us in any way that she could.

Open hearts and willing hands are always able to make a difference!

While visiting friends and family in the states, I had coffee with Maggie. Such a joy to my soul to spend time with such a beautiful lady. Towards the end of our time she told me about her oldest daughter’s birthday wish.

Lily was turning 12. As her birthday approached, Maggie asked her what she wanted for her birthday. Lily asked for shoes and blankets for the poor and needy. Since this was her only sincere request, Maggie and Adrian (Maggie’s husband and Lily’s father) bought shoes and blankets of all colors and sizes and put them in a big black suitcase and gave them to Lily for her 12th birthday. She was delighted to see they took her seriously and then asked Maggie who they could give them to. Maggie explained she was meeting with me for coffee and asked if she would like to give them to the people of Chibuto and Lily agreed.

I have been honored with the task of finding people who need shoes and blankets to fulfill Lily’s birthday request. So here is the first group of details for Lily’s shoes –

This is Jose and Rolando. I was looking after their feet often because they had no shoes. So, here they are with new shoes.

This is Agredico. Daily we asked about school and he would never go. He finally went one day and then the next day, he did not go. The following day, I watched him sullenly walk towards school with his book bag and asked him into the house. I asked him where his shoes are and he sadly explained he had none. I know he cannot attend school without shoes. So, here are his new shoes. Now with his new shoes, he goes to school every day and comes back to show his progress. He has actually thanked me on three different occasions for these shoes.

More to come – thank you Lily for such a big heart! Thank you Maggie for having coffee and giving us the big black bag!
